The ACCU kicked-off 2013 with the return of a popular event, a social mixer held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Credit union employees from all levels had a fun, relaxing evening networking with friends in their credit union community, including vendor partners and special guests from the TX Credit Union League, Tom Haider and Jim Phelps. Raffle tickets were sold for several door prizes, with all proceeds benefitting the Austin chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. And, announcements were made by several board members regarding the many exciting ACCU events and initiatives scheduled for the year!

Andrea Stocks (a door prize winner!) of A+FCU was also recognized for her 20+ years of service. Happy retirement Andrea!

For the third year in a row, ACCU board members joined other chapter officers from across Texas in Dallas on January 17 & 18 to network, share best practices and discuss new ways of connecting with local credit unions. The ACCU was once again well-represented with eight board members in attendance. 

Highlights of the conference included a motivational speaker who “awoke the passion” in attendees by providing tips on how to get peak performance out of ourselves and others; updates on how Texas credit unions continue to provide fundraising support to the Children’s Miracle Network of hospitals; breakout sessions where they shared best practices and brain-stormed on how to build the “model” chapter; legal issues affecting chapters; financial literacy training outreach opportunities; the connection between credit unions and socio-economics; and most importantly, the league consolidation of Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Chapter officers were also treated to a team-building activity and dinner at the Main Event in Plano.

The ACCU held its annual bowling tournament on Tuesday, November 13 at the Main Event in North Austin. The bowling tournament is an annual fundraising event benefitting one of the non-profits that the ACCU supports. Proceeds from the 2012 bowling tournament went to the Austin chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
